How to Use HSA/FSA Funds for a BodySpec DEXA Scan
BodySpec DEXA scans are often eligible for HSA and FSA funds. Every plan is different, so check with your plan administrator before you book.
Two ways to pay
1. Use your HSA/FSA card
- Book your scan or buy a package.
- Pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout, like any credit card.
- Save your paperwork (see below).
2. Pay now, get reimbursed
- Pay with a personal card.
- Log in to your HSA or FSA portal and start a claim.
- Upload your itemized receipt.
If your HSA/FSA card is declined, use option 2.
Keep these for your claim
Even if your card goes through, your administrator may ask for proof later.
- Itemized receipt. Need another copy? Email support@bodyspec.com or call 310-601-8184.
- Appointment confirmation email.
- Your DEXA scan report (PDF). Some plans ask for it as proof the scan happened. You'll find it in your BodySpec account after your scan.
Which accounts usually qualify
| Account | Can you use it for a DEXA scan? |
|---|---|
| HSA | Often yes |
| Health FSA | Often yes |
| HRA | Depends on your employer's plan |
| Limited Purpose FSA | Usually not |
| Dependent Care FSA | No |
Do you need a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)?
Maybe. Some plans reimburse a DEXA scan with just a receipt. Others ask for an LMN to show the scan is for medical care, not general wellness.
BodySpec can't issue an LMN. If your plan requires one, ask your doctor or another clinician.
An LMN usually includes:
- The specific condition being evaluated or managed
- That the scan is used to monitor or guide care for that condition
Keep the LMN with your receipt and scan report.
Good to know
BodySpec is self-pay. We don't bill insurance and don't provide ICD-10 or CPT codes. HSA and FSA administrators typically rely on your receipt and supporting documents instead.
