BMI-Derived Estimate
BMI (kg/m²) can be converted to an estimated body fat percentage using empirically derived formulas. While convenient, this method carries an error of ±3–4% because it does not account for individual differences in muscle and bone density (Deurenberg et al., 1991).
Jackson–Pollock Skinfold Method
Skinfold calipers measure subcutaneous fat at multiple sites, which are plugged into the Jackson–Pollock equations to calculate body density and then body fat via the Siri equation.
