Frequently Asked Questions
Our DEXA scan measures bone density, body fat percentage by region, lean mass (muscle), visceral fat, and much more. After your scan, you'll get a comprehensive report to track your bone health and full-body metrics, get actionable next steps based on your goals, and track progress. Learn more about what DEXA scans measure.
Our DEXA scans are actually a type of non-diagnostic bone density scan, but they provide much more comprehensive information. While traditional bone density scans focus only on bone health, DEXA scans measure bone density plus body fat percentage, lean muscle mass, visceral fat, and provide a complete body composition analysis in a single scan.
We believe preventative health and fitness scans should be more accessible, so we've reduced the cost of DEXA scans from $300 to as low as $39. Learn more about pricing here or discover the real cost of DEXA scans and why we're the most affordable option.
The BodySpec® report includes easy overviews of your data, so you can see where you stand, how your bone density and body composition metrics have changed, and identify the most meaningful areas of improvement. View our sample report here to see exactly what you'll receive. We also provide 24/7 access to our conversational AI agent that can help explain your results and answer questions about your bone health and body composition anytime you need guidance.
The answer depends on your lifestyle and goals. Many of our users scan every 3 months to track bone density and body composition changes and adjust accordingly. If you're training for a time-sensitive event, or trying to make major health changes to your body, scanning once a month could significantly boost your program's effectiveness.
Yes! At BodySpec, you can book a DEXA scan directly without needing a doctor's referral. Our physicians will take care of ordering the scan for you. Simply book online and visit one of our convenient locations in Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, and many other cities.
For the most accurate results, we recommend wearing a sports bra without underwire or metal clasps during your DEXA scan. Regular bras with underwire, hooks, or metal components can interfere slightly with the X-ray imaging. We'll provide specific preparation instructions when you book your appointment.
