Why Choose a Mobile DEXA Scan?

A white BodySpec Sprinter van is parked on a paved driveway in front of a modern office building with large glass windows. The van has colorful graphics with the BodySpec logo, text, and an image of a person exercising.

Enjoy lab-accurate body composition testing without the travel. You get the same gold-standard scan technology and detailed report—our mobile unit just brings it to you. Key differences:

  • Mobile scans come directly to your site and can host an exclusive event for your group.
  • Weight limits: BodySpec storefront DEXAs support up to 450 lbs; our mobile DEXAs support up to 350 lbs (DEXA weight limits).

How We Guarantee Mobile Scan Accuracy

An illustration of a light green shield containing three icons. At the top, a green checkmark in a circle. In the middle, a line graph showing an upward trend. At the bottom, a pink cogwheel icon. This visually represents quality assurance, analytics, and system maintenance for high accuracy standards.

BodySpec engineers and operates its mobile units to meet a repeatable standard of ±0.5% accuracy (our rigorous internal accuracy standard), maintained through strict quality-assurance (QA) and fleet-wide analytics to deliver consistent results across all locations.

  • Mandatory daily QA lock: Every scanner must pass required QA before use—scanning is blocked until it passes (see our DEXA FAQ for details).
  • On-site checks, every event: After parking and leveling, we run QA before scanning any clients, and we run end-of-day QA before leaving the event location to verify stability.
  • Fleet-wide cross-machine analytics: Every QA result is uploaded and compared across our large fleet for statistical consistency—not just local checks.
  • Proactive monitoring: Trend alerts flag even subtle drift so we can perform preventative maintenance before client results are impacted.
  • In-house service only: Our scanners are serviced exclusively by BodySpec technicians to ensure consistency.
  • Mobile-ready engineering: Stabilized mounting and power conditioning minimize vibration and voltage variation on the road.

Industry voices have raised concerns about mobile vans—like potential misalignment or calibration drift in the field (a critical perspective). BodySpec’s stringent QA protocol and fleet-wide verification are designed to directly address these risks and deliver consistent, reliable results across locations.

Manufacturer-Certified, In-House Technicians: Why It Matters

BodySpec’s hardware is installed, maintained, and serviced by our own in-house repair technicians—never by third-party contractors. This in-house approach is critical for maintaining accuracy and consistency across our entire fleet:

  • Manufacturer-certified training on our DEXA systems, plus extensive field experience
  • Full lifecycle ownership from install to maintenance, repair, and post-service verification
  • Standardized checklists and calibration logs for alignment across storefront and mobile sites
  • Accountability over quick fixes—long-term quality vs. one-off contractor repairs

How Client Preparation Ensures Consistent Results

Icons of a sun, a water droplet, and a t-shirt, symbolizing a consistent preparation routine for a scan procedure. The icons are arranged horizontally on a light beige background.

To ensure the most reliable comparisons over time, it's crucial to maintain a consistent routine before each scan:

  • Keep your routine consistent before each scan (time of day, hydration, and meal timing).
  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas, and long hot baths for about 12 hours pre-scan.
  • Wear similar, lightweight clothing each visit.
  • Maintain normal hydration; avoid heavy meals right before scanning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are mobile DEXA scans really accurate?

Yes. We maintain ±0.5% accuracy through daily QA checks, on-site verification, fleet-wide analytics, and in-house servicing. See the section “How We Guarantee Mobile Scan Accuracy” above for the full process.

What about privacy and HIPAA compliance?

We protect your privacy with strict data security standards. We encrypt all data at rest and in transit and enforce strict access controls. As a wellness service, BodySpec is not a HIPAA-covered entity, but we apply healthcare-grade safeguards to your information.

Is the radiation higher in a mobile unit?

A whimsical illustration displaying a balancing scale. On the left side, a bunch of ripe yellow bananas are placed. On the right side, a glowing yellow sphere with small sparkly accents represents radiation.

No. A DEXA scan uses a very low dose—about as much as eating four bananas. Read more about DEXA radiation safety.

What are the weight limits?

Our storefront scanners support up to 450 lbs. Our mobile units support up to 350 lbs (DEXA weight limits). If you’re unsure, reach out to support before booking.

How long does each scan take?

Scanner time is typically under 10 minutes; plan about 15 minutes including check-in.

How soon will I receive my results?

Results appear on your BodySpec dashboard within minutes to a few hours. You’ll receive an email notification once they are ready.

Do participants need to fast or avoid exercise?

A light meal and normal hydration are acceptable before your scan. For best consistency across scans, avoid intense exercise and saunas for about 12 hours beforehand, book at a similar time of day, and keep clothing, hydration, and meal timing similar each visit. See our scan preparation checklist.

Where are mobile services available?

We currently serve California, Washington, and Texas. Don’t see your state? Let us know where to expand next by requesting an event.
